In The Garden

“Outdoor classes” are held in the Terra Nova Rural Park, on over 5000 square feet of growing space generously provided by the City of Richmond.  Working with community volunteers, students plan their garden in the winter, prepare the beds in the spring, plant the seeds and seedlings, tend and monitor their crops and harvest their produce in the fall. Through these hands-on learning experiences, children begin to understand where their food comes from, appreciate seasonality and the cycle of food production and gain an increased awareness of their natural environment and of the community around them.
